Pope Francis lived up to his namesake’s love, care for creation
Tapping into the spirit and spirituality of his namesake, St. Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis made care for creation and for all that lives on the earth a pastoral priority.
Keep it going
During the lesser-known Holy Week ritual of planning for Easter eggs and Easter baskets, my husband showed off his purchases of chocolate bunnies and fruit punch-flavored Peeps.
Parishioners, visitors gather at cathedral to remember Pope Francis
Catholics gathered at Holy Name Cathedral and in their local parishes April 21 after learning of the death of Pope Francis early that morning.
Pope, a ‘son of immigrants,’ leaves legacy of migrant advocacy
When Pope Francis chose the small Italian island of Lampedusa as the destination for his first trip outside Rome after his election, he signaled to the world that migration would be a defining issue of his pontificate.
Local Catholic leaders pay tribute to pope
In the hours after the world learned of the death of Pope Francis on April 21, people and institutions around the world released statements and tributes to the late pontiff. Here are excerpts of some of them:

In his efforts to promote a holistic defense of human life, Pope Francis frequently denounced a “throwaway culture” where anyone not considered “useful” was seen as disposable — including the unborn and the aged.
Father Matthew Foley reinstated to ministry
On April 15, Cardinal Cupich sent the following letter to St. Agnes of Bohemia; St. Gall; St. James; Mary, Seat of Wisdom; Misión San Juan Diego; St. Norbert and Our Lady of the Brook; and St. Simon of Cyrene parishes informing them of the reinstatement of Father Matthew Foley.
Son receives the sacraments and inspires mother to complete hers
Last summer, the urge to go back to church stirred in Adrian Gonzalez, 19. His family is Catholic, but only attended Mass sporadically. While he was never baptized, the urge to fully commit to church had been growing for some time.
Support for moms creates stability for generations
Raising children is the most challenging and most important job of any mother’s life. The future does begin with mom, as we nurture, feed, clothe, guide, teach and support our children. Just as Cardinal Cupich shared last Mother’s Day, we mothers must lean on our faith as we stand by our children, empowering them to live in community with their neighbors, face life’s challenges with grace and perseverance, and pursue their dreams.
May 4: Third Sunday of Easter
